CVH Action: Members Take Over Bank Headquarters During Showdown on Wall Street

Over one hundred Community Voices Heard members joined National People's Action, a national network of community organizations, for a day of action against the big banks. First, CVH joined New York City Aids Housing Network (NYCAHN), Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, PUSH from Buffalo, and SUN from Syracuse to fill the lobbies of Chase and Wachovia (now owned by Wells Fargo) to deliver a letter demanding that they stop practices that caused the economic crisis and start reinvesting back into low-income communities.  In the lobby of Chase bank, Darryl Pleasant, a member of CVH, testified about how Chase has made millions of dollars by charging public assistance recipients a fee every time they use their EBT cards to access their benefits.  After the surprise actions at the bank headquarters, CVH members joined over 10,000 members of unions and community organizations for a rally at City Hall and march to Wall Street.  At the rally, CVH member Cathy Stephens spoke about how the building she lives in had fallen victim to predatory equity and put low-income tenants at risk of being displaced.
