Accountability will not end police violence. Changing the entire system will.

April 21, 2021: For many of us, the mere notification that the verdict was coming incited feelings of anxiety and fear - no doubt because of the intensity and implications of the moment. Yesterday's verdict serves as the condemnation of the cruel murder of George Floyd but there is no victory in the justice system doing what it *should* do for something that *should not* have happened. This is just a matter of what kinds of tears we get to cry, and none of them are tears of joy. The circumstances -- from the event to the outcome -- are yet another product of systematic and sustained racism and injustices towards Black and Brown people. Sadly, just 15 minutes before a Minneapolis jury returned guilty verdicts in the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, 15-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant was fatally shot by police in Columbus, Ohio. It is undeniable - we need to reimagine public safety now, more than ever. CVH sends our deepest condolences and prayers out to the families of Ma'Khia Bryant & George Floyd during this difficult time. Please stay tuned for announcements on CVH community sessions that will pay honor to George Floyd, Ma'khia Bryant, Breonna Taylor and all of the precious souls that stolen from us due to police violence.
