CVH Meets with U.S. Secretary of Housing Martha Fudge

Wednesday, April 28, 2021 In December 2020, during our Follow Black Women Town Hall with Majority Leader Schumer, CVH member Deborah Danzy asked if he would arrange a meeting between members of Community Voices Heard and HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge within the first 100 days of her term. Senator Schumer said yes, and we are pleased to announce that he delivered on that commitment! CVH is proud to be one of the first community based organizations in the nation to meet directly with Secretary Fudge.

This morning, Community Voices Heard member-leaders expressed our hopes for what a revitalized HUD dedicated to housing justice could look like. We shared our demands for full funding for public housing, increased CDBG funding, and deeper support for renters. See the letter sent to Secretary Fudge in advance of our meeting.

Our members concluded their meeting by asking Secretary Fudge to make two commitments: 1) that she would visit New York and do a walk-through of federally subsidized housing developments with CVH members, and 2) that she'd engage in with CVH on a regular basis - to which she AGREED!

We’re excited to engage Secretary Fudge in our fight for truly affordable housing as well as adequate resource allocation for renters.

Help us continue our fight for housing justice.
